The one with the essay I wrote for SPM

Frightening experience

Do you believe in an euphoric world? I for one, do not. As a matter of fact, I can’t fathom how anyone can see the world as a place of peace and harmony. The world is filled with greed, violence, pain, suffering and a place where mercy is but a term created by adult to deceive their child. However, I used to be a believer. Back when I was a naïve sixteen year-old teenager, not knowing the vehement reality of the world is slowly creeping down upon me. It has been 6 years since that very event that changed my view upon the world. An event that haunted me as if of a tormented soul imploring to be released.

It was a mediocre Saturday night, or so I thought. The night was blessed with a full moon along with an orchestra of nature in my front yard. I was completing the last of my holiday assignments on the patio. The patio had always been my favorite part of the villa. Our house was decorated with things that I didn’t even know existed before. Well, maybe there were certain benefits to have your father as an engineer and your mother as an interior designer. I walked across the yard to my sister who was taking a dip in the swimming pool. I looked at Emily and said, “Looks like someone is trying to get rid of some extra weight”. She responded to my statement with a splash of water that drenched my entire torso. That was when it had all stated.

“Danny, would you please wrap a towel around your sister and bring her here?” he yelled across the garage. I had a gut feeling as my father had never addressed me with my middle name. I asked Emily to stay behind and run if she hears me screaming. I took a deep breath and headed for the garage as stealthy as I could. Suddenly, I heard a noise behind me. My heart beat started to rise as sweat began pouring down my face. There was a man! He charged towards me with what looked like a pistol in his hand. I tried to dodge but his agility proved to be prominent over my own. I managed to catch only a glimpse of his face before my vision failed me.

When I came back into my senses, I heard my father shriek in pain as one of the intruder buried a metal bullet in his thigh. I was frightened and confused. If the intruders were after our wealth, why had they yet to run with all of our belongings? Then, I picked up my ears as one of the intruder said, “You think what you did was justice!? I had a family to feed! Do you know how the life in prison was!?” Then it all made sense, few years ago, my father had exposed a scam carried out by his partner which literally extorted an arm and a leg off the company. My father yelled back in excruciating pain “Do you think it felt good exposing you!? You were my friend, I trusted you and you betrayed me! You were using my name in your scam! You were up a blind valley! I had to do something!” My father’s response only added fuel to the fire.

Then they dragged us out to the pool side. I saw with my own eyes, how they held my father’s hair and submerged his head through the surface of the water. He scuffled to no avail. I stared. All I could do was to stare as they tried to kill him. His movements seemed more limited every second that passed. Then finally, he was bereft of his life. The intruders panicked as both my mother and sister started screaming, afraid that the noise might alarm the neighbors or the night watch. I was in a place of my own, woken up only by the two gun shots that penetrated both of my remaining family members between their eyes. I saw then running as my Emily’s lifeless body fell into the pool.

They were never caught despite various attempts by the legal department. I watched as the murderers of my family members walked out of the house of justice with a smirk on the side of their face. They were off the hook after all that they had done. I had survived the pain, survived the experience and held my head high. Today I once again look in the eyes of the devils that broke into my home 6 years ago. Today I look at them as the prosecutor with the balls in my court. Today I see fear in their eyes as they were once lust for violence. Today, a weight was released off my soul as the judge sentenced them to a life time sentence. At last, justice has been served.

Non- SPM Ending

They were never caught despite of my effort with the legal department. I had done things I am not proud of to survive. I had looked forward to nothing, no dream, no future, no past. Living my life aimlessly. For so long I had waited for this day, for so long I had prepared. Today is the day where I can finally put my nightmare to rest. Today I once again look in the eyes of the devils that broke into my home 6 years ago. Today I see fear in their eyes as they were once lust for violence. Today they knelt before me with their hands bounded around their back, asking for mercy. Today I point the very tool they once used to take the life of the innocents, giving them a taste of their own medicine. Today, I have my revenge.
